steel drums
Trinidadian metal instruments
Steel drums are percussion instruments made from oil barrels, with the top hammered into a concave shape and divided into sections that produce different notes when struck.
Originating in Trinidad, they create the distinctive bright, ringing sound of Caribbean music: The steel drums gave the beach party an island feel.
Also called steel pans or simply pans.
