canasta
Latin American basket
Canasta is a card game for two to six players using two standard decks plus jokers.
Players draw and discard to form melds—sets of three or more cards of the same rank.
The goal is to create canastas, melds of seven cards, which score bonus points.
The game originated in Uruguay in the 1940s and became a worldwide craze in the 1950s: My grandmother's bridge club switched to canasta.
