busing

Clearing restaurant tables

Busing is the transport of students by bus to schools outside their local area, a practice implemented primarily in the United States to achieve racial integration in public education.

The policy became controversial during the 1960s and 1970s as courts ordered school districts to bus students across neighborhood lines to desegregate formerly all-white or all-Black schools.

Mandatory busing sparked protests in Boston and other cities.

The term also simply means transporting people by bus, or clearing tables in a restaurant.
