brass ring
Coveted success symbol
A brass ring is a prize or opportunity worth striving for, from the old carousel game where riders tried to grab a brass ring as they passed—catching it won a free ride.
To grab the brass ring or reach for the brass ring is to pursue success or seize an opportunity: She finally grabbed the brass ring with her promotion to partner.
