gratuity

Waiter's thank-you money

A gratuity is a tip—money given voluntarily for service rendered, especially to restaurant servers, hotel staff, or taxi drivers: The bill included an 18% gratuity for parties of six or more.

The word sounds more formal than tip and often appears in contexts where the amount is predetermined or added automatically rather than left to discretion.
