boycotting

Organized consumer protest

Boycotting is refusing to buy from, work with, or otherwise engage with a company, country, or organization as a form of protest or pressure.

The term comes from Charles Boycott, an Irish land agent shunned by his community in 1880.

People boycott businesses over labor practices, governments over human rights abuses, or products over environmental concerns: They're boycotting the company until it changes its policies.
