chargeback
Transaction reversal request
A chargeback is a reversal of a credit card transaction, initiated when a cardholder disputes a charge with their bank.
The bank withdraws funds from the merchant's account and returns them to the customer.
Chargebacks protect consumers from fraud or unsatisfactory purchases, but merchants view them as costly: We lost three hundred dollars to chargebacks last month.
The verb is to charge back.
