body scans

Airport security imaging

Body scans are imaging procedures that capture detailed pictures of the inside of the body—CT scans, MRIs, PET scans, and similar technologies used to detect tumors, injuries, or disease.

The term also refers to a meditation technique where you mentally move attention through each part of your body, noticing sensations without judgment: I do a body scan before sleep to release tension.

In security contexts, body scans are screenings at airports or other checkpoints that detect concealed items beneath clothing.
