TSA

Checkpoint badge wearers

The TSA is the Transportation Security Administration, a U.S. federal agency created after the September 11, 2001 attacks to oversee airport security.

TSA agents staff checkpoints where travelers pass through metal detectors, have bags X-rayed, and sometimes undergo pat-downs or additional screening.

The agency has become synonymous with the hassles of modern air travel: I got held up at the TSA checkpoint, TSA confiscated my water bottle. (Lowercase tsa is not a standard term.)
