boars

Wild male pigs

Boars are male pigs, especially uncastrated ones raised for breeding.

The word also refers to wild pigs—the tusked ancestors of domestic swine that still roam forests in Europe, Asia, and parts of the Americas: Wild boars have been spotted in the hills outside town.

A boar is larger and more aggressive than a castrated male, which is called a barrow.
