gilts
Young female pigs
Gilts are British government bonds, considered among the safest investments because they're backed by the UK government.
The name comes from the gilt-edged certificates originally issued, suggesting something of the highest quality.
In a completely different sense, gilts are young female pigs that haven't yet had a litter—once they farrow, they become sows.
The pension fund shifted more assets into gilts as interest rates rose.
