Watership Down

Lapine survival saga

Watership Down is a 1972 novel by Richard Adams about a group of rabbits who flee their threatened warren to establish a new home.

The book created an elaborate rabbit mythology and language, and became a beloved classic despite initial rejection by publishers.

An animated film adaptation followed in 1978.

The title refers to the hill in Hampshire, England, where the rabbits settle.
