bioengineered
Scientifically altered life
Bioengineered describes organisms or products modified through genetic engineering or other biotechnology techniques.
The term appears most often in food labeling, where it indicates ingredients derived from genetically modified organisms: This product contains bioengineered food ingredients.
Bioengineered crops may be designed for pest resistance, higher yields, or enhanced nutrition.
The word is sometimes preferred over "genetically modified" in official contexts.
