beta particles

Radioactive decay emissions

Beta particles are high-energy electrons or positrons emitted from atomic nuclei during radioactive decay.

They have greater penetrating power than alpha particles but less than gamma rays, and can be stopped by a few millimeters of aluminum or plastic.

Beta radiation is used in medical treatments and industrial applications: The Geiger counter detected beta particles from the sample.
