bubble chamber
Subatomic trail revealer
A bubble chamber is a device used in physics to detect charged subatomic particles.
A sealed container holds superheated liquid; when particles pass through, they leave trails of tiny bubbles along their paths, making invisible particle trajectories visible and photographable.
Largely superseded by newer detection methods, bubble chambers were essential tools in particle physics research through the mid-20th century.
