herbal tea

Steeped botanical beverage

Herbal tea is a beverage made by steeping plant materials—leaves, flowers, roots, or bark—in hot water.

Unlike true tea, which comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, herbal teas contain no actual tea leaves: chamomile tea, peppermint tea, rooibos.

The term is technically a misnomer, but universally understood.

Herbal teas are often caffeine-free and associated with relaxation or medicinal properties.
