apostolic delegate
Pope's diplomatic representative
An apostolic delegate is a papal representative sent to a country that lacks formal diplomatic relations with the Vatican.
Unlike a nuncio, who serves as both religious liaison and ambassador, an apostolic delegate handles only ecclesiastical matters—communicating between the Pope and local Catholic bishops without diplomatic standing in the host government.
