half-integer

Between consecutive wholes

A half-integer is a number that lies exactly halfway between two consecutive integers: ½, 1½, 2½, and so on, including their negative counterparts.

The term appears primarily in mathematics and physics, where half-integer values describe quantum spin states of particles like electrons and protons.

Despite the name, half-integers are not integers at all.
