alderwoman
Woman on council
An alderwoman is a female member of a city council or municipal legislative body, the counterpart to alderman.
The term emerged as cities sought gender-specific titles for women serving in these elected positions, though many jurisdictions now use the gender-neutral alderperson or simply council member.
The alderwoman from the third ward opposed the rezoning proposal.
