chairwoman

Female committee head

A chairwoman is a woman who presides over a meeting, committee, board, or organization.

The term explicitly marks gender, unlike the neutral *chair* or *chairperson*.

Some women prefer *chairwoman* to emphasize their presence in leadership; others find gendered titles unnecessary: The chairwoman called the meeting to order.
