Africanism

Trait from Africa

Africanism refers to a cultural feature, linguistic element, or practice originating in Africa or retained from African heritage, particularly among diaspora populations: Scholars trace certain musical rhythms in jazz to Africanisms.

The term also describes a word, phrase, or grammatical structure borrowed from an African language into another language.

In a different sense, Africanism means advocacy for African interests, unity, or identity—related to but distinct from Pan-Africanism.
