academicians

Academicians are members of an academy, particularly a prestigious scholarly or artistic institution like the Royal Academy or a national academy of sciences.
The term carries more weight than simply "academics"—it implies formal membership in an elite body that recognizes distinguished achievement: The academicians voted to admit three new members.
Sometimes used more loosely for academics generally, though this dilutes the distinction.
