Whitsunday
Fiftieth day celebration
Whitsunday is the Christian festival commemorating Pentecost, the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter.
The name comes from the white garments worn by the newly baptized.
In Britain, Whitsunday was traditionally a public holiday: The village held its annual fair at Whitsunday.
The week following is Whitsuntide.
