UVB

Midrange solar radiation

UVB is ultraviolet B radiation—the portion of the sun's ultraviolet spectrum that causes sunburn and contributes to skin cancer.

UVB rays are partially blocked by the ozone layer and don't penetrate glass.

Sunscreens are rated by their SPF, which measures protection against UVB.

Compare UVA, which penetrates deeper but burns less.
