U-571
German naval vessel
U-571 is a 2000 American war film depicting a fictional World War II mission in which U.S.
Navy sailors capture a German submarine to seize its Enigma code machine.
The film drew criticism from British officials for rewriting history—in reality, British forces captured the first naval Enigma machine.
The title refers to the German U-boat in the story.
