dramatization

Dramatization is the act of adapting something for dramatic presentation, or the resulting work: The film is a dramatization of the 1969 moon landing.

More loosely, dramatization means exaggerating for effect—making something seem more serious, emotional, or significant than it is: His account of the accident was pure dramatization.
