Title IX

Educational equality mandate

Title IX is a 1972 U.S. federal law prohibiting sex-based discrimination in educational programs receiving federal funding.

Though broadly applicable, it's best known for transforming women's athletics—schools must provide female students equal opportunity to participate in sports.

Title IX revolutionized women's college basketball.

The law also covers sexual harassment and assault policies on campuses.
