The Wall

Room's standing boundary

The Wall refers to the Berlin Wall, the barrier dividing East and West Berlin from 1961 to 1989, which became the defining symbol of Cold War division: When the Wall came down, everything changed.

In other contexts, the Wall may designate the Western Wall in Jerusalem, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, or Pink Floyd's 1979 rock opera.

Any prominent barrier in a specific context may become simply the Wall.
