barristers

Wigged legal advocates

Barristers are lawyers in the British legal system who specialize in courtroom advocacy and litigation.

Unlike solicitors, who handle general legal matters and client consultations, barristers are called upon to argue cases before judges and juries.

They traditionally wear wigs and gowns in court and are addressed as "counsel." The defense barrister delivered a compelling closing argument.

In the United States, the distinction between barrister and solicitor does not exist; all licensed lawyers may appear in court.
