curtesy
Husband's estate right
Curtesy is a legal term for a husband's right to a life estate in his deceased wife's property, provided they had children born alive.
The term is archaic, as most jurisdictions have abolished such gender-specific inheritance rules.
Not to be confused with courtesy, which means politeness.
