Anwar Sadat

Anwar Sadat was the president of Egypt from 1970 until his assassination in 1981.

He made history by becoming the first Arab leader to officially recognize Israel, signing the Camp David Accords with Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin in 1978—for which both received the Nobel Peace Prize.

Egyptian soldiers opposed to the peace treaty killed him during a military parade.
