Scud missiles

Gulf War projectiles

Scud missiles are Soviet-designed ballistic missiles, originally developed in the 1960s and widely exported.

The name became familiar during the 1991 Gulf War, when Iraq fired Scuds at Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Scud now serves as a generic term for older, inaccurate ballistic missiles used by various nations: Coalition forces targeted Scud launchers.
