spider hole

Hidden underground refuge

A spider hole is a concealed foxhole or hiding place, typically a small pit covered with camouflage that allows a soldier to observe or ambush enemies while remaining hidden.

The term gained wider recognition in 2003 when Saddam Hussein was captured hiding in one near Tikrit.

Snipers used spider holes along the jungle trail.
