Khomeini

Khomeini refers to Ruhollah Khomeini (1900–1989), the Shia cleric who led Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution and became the country's Supreme Leader.

His name often stands for the theocratic government he established or for militant Islamic fundamentalism more broadly: the Khomeini regime, post-Khomeini Iran.

The honorific "Ayatollah" typically precedes his name.
