palaces
Where monarchs dwell
Palaces are the grand residences of royalty, high-ranking officials, or other powerful figures.
The word implies scale, luxury, and official function—Buckingham Palace houses British monarchs, while the Palace of Versailles served French kings.
By extension, any impressively large or ornate building may be called a palace: a movie palace, an ice palace.
They live in a palace compared to our apartment.
