landscapes
Nature's painted backdrops
Landscapes are wide views of natural or outdoor scenery—mountains, valleys, fields, coastlines.
The term also covers artistic depictions of such scenes: a landscape painter, a landscape photograph.
Extended uses describe the general state of a domain: the political landscape, the media landscape.
In computing, landscape orientation means wider than tall, as opposed to portrait.
To landscape is to modify terrain for aesthetic purposes: We landscaped the backyard.
