Notre-Dame de Paris
Famous Parisian cathedral
Notre-Dame de Paris is the medieval Catholic cathedral on the Île de la Cité in Paris, one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture.
The name means "Our Lady of Paris," referring to the Virgin Mary.
Construction began in 1163 and continued for nearly two centuries.
The cathedral is also the title of Victor Hugo's 1831 novel, known in English as *The Hunchback of Notre-Dame*: The fire at Notre-Dame devastated the world.
