Defective product process
RMA stands for return merchandise authorization, the permission and tracking number a retailer or manufacturer provides when you need to send back a defective or unwanted product.
Getting an RMA is typically the first step in the return process: I called customer service to get an RMA for my broken headphones.
The term functions as both the authorization itself and the reference number assigned to track the return through the system.
