Moral Majority

Reagan-era religious lobby

Moral Majority was a conservative Christian political organization in the United States, founded in 1979 and disbanded in 1989.

Led by televangelist Jerry Falwell, it mobilized evangelical voters around opposition to abortion, homosexuality, and the Equal Rights Amendment.

The term now refers broadly to religiously motivated conservative activism: The moral majority wants prayer back in schools.
