Pennine

Northern England hills

Pennine refers to the Pennines, a range of hills and mountains running north-south through northern England, often called "the backbone of England." The term appears most often as an adjective: the Pennine Way (a long-distance footpath), Pennine moorland, Pennine villages.

The region is characterized by bleak uplands, limestone formations, and historic wool towns.
