bilberry
Dark moorland fruit
Bilberry is a small, dark blue berry closely related to the blueberry, native to northern Europe and parts of Asia.
The berries grow on low shrubs in acidic, nutrient-poor soils like moors and heathlands.
Bilberries have a more intense flavor than cultivated blueberries and stain the mouth purple: We picked bilberries on the hillside all afternoon.
