transformation zone
Cellular transition region
The transformation zone is the area of the cervix where two types of cells meet—the glandular cells of the inner cervical canal and the squamous cells of the outer cervix.
This zone is medically significant because it's where most cervical cancers and precancerous changes develop, making it the focus of Pap smears and HPV screening.
