speculum

Reflective examination tool

A speculum is a medical instrument inserted into a body cavity to hold it open for examination—most commonly used in gynecological exams to view the cervix.

The word also appears in ornithology for the brightly colored patch on certain birds' wings, especially ducks: The mallard's speculum is an iridescent blue.

Plural: specula or speculums.
