PageRank

Google's ranking formula

PageRank is Google's algorithm for ranking web pages by importance, named after co-founder Larry Page.

The system treats links as votes—a page linked by many other pages, especially important ones, ranks higher in search results.

The term now refers broadly to any measure of network influence based on incoming connections: Her PageRank in academic circles is enormous.
