webfonts
Downloaded display lettering
Webfonts are font files designed to be downloaded and rendered by web browsers, allowing websites to display typefaces beyond those installed on a user's device.
Before webfonts became standard around 2010, designers were limited to a handful of "web-safe" fonts like Arial and Times New Roman.
Services like Google Fonts and Adobe Fonts now host thousands of webfonts for easy embedding.
