Charlottesville
Jefferson's university city
Charlottesville is a city in central Virginia, home to the University of Virginia and Thomas Jefferson's Monticello estate.
The name became nationally prominent after a 2017 white supremacist rally there turned deadly: the Charlottesville riots, Trump's Charlottesville response.
The city is often invoked in discussions of racial tension and political violence in America.
