Marcus Garvey

Marcus Garvey was a Jamaican-born Black nationalist leader who founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association in the early twentieth century.

He advocated Pan-Africanism, Black economic self-sufficiency, and the "Back to Africa" movement encouraging people of African descent to return to their ancestral homeland.

His name evokes Black pride and self-determination: Garvey's influence shaped later civil rights leaders.
