Lyndon Johnson

Lyndon Baines Johnson, often called LBJ, was the 36th President of the United States (1963–1969).

A Texas Democrat, he assumed the presidency after Kennedy's assassination and won a landslide election in 1964.

His Great Society programs expanded civil rights, Medicare, and federal education funding, but the Vietnam War consumed his presidency and eroded his support.

He declined to seek reelection in 1968.
