Henry Kissinger

Henry Kissinger was a German-born American diplomat who served as National Security Advisor and Secretary of State under Presidents Nixon and Ford.

He shaped Cold War foreign policy through détente with the Soviet Union, opening relations with China, and negotiating the Paris Peace Accords ending U.S. involvement in Vietnam.

His name evokes both diplomatic pragmatism and controversy over covert operations in Chile, Cambodia, and elsewhere.

Kissinger often appears as shorthand for amoral realpolitik: a Kissinger-style approach to foreign affairs.
