Fredericksburg

Burnside's devastating defeat

Fredericksburg is a city in Virginia, site of a major Civil War battle in December 1862 where Confederate forces repelled a Union assault with devastating casualties.

The name also belongs to a city in central Texas known for German heritage and Hill Country tourism.

Both were named for members of European royalty—the Virginia city for a British prince, the Texas city for a Prussian one.
